That's just not good enough! Will be keeping everything crossed for it to be open then...

Yep, Pal has more for the intermediate skier. But definitely get over to Arcalis, some awesome skiing to be had including a bit of off piste.

Thought I might as well hijack this thread... It sort of asks my question anyway... Steve, in your experience does it look like there's any chance of la capa being open on 2-5 March? We're popping over for a last minute weekend trip and what may well be our last trip to arinsal so it'd be good to have a few more runs down from the top! Cheers, Ryan

  • I managed to get the day off work so we'll be heading over on the Friday. Might see ya there.

  • Nicky I've never been part of the ski school but as far as I know you either choose or are given the morning or afternoon slot regardless of your ability. So there will be at least one group of each ability morning AND afternoon. If I'm wrong, someone else will advise and I'll apologise!

Pointless thread, but I'm bored, recuperating at home for two weeks after a minor op on Monday and wish it was ski season! So who's already booked and when you going?! Ryan

Cheers Steve. I think we've managed to make an arrangement with the hotel now but if not I'll let you know. Ric, we're going 15th-22nd January.

In fact thinking about it we're too young for granddad rights and don't have the D1 minibus driving licence category so can't hire a self-drive minibus! Back to plan c, d or whatever we're up to now.

That's one option but I can't find anyone who do 12 seater minibus rentals from BCN, do you know of any? We were originally going to rent a couple of people carriers but with a couple of extra bodies now we really need the minibus. Obviously we also want the best value for money.

Cheers Steve. That's definitely a bit pricey especially as we want to go at least twice!! Originally we'd have had our own hire cars for the trip but the group size keeps fluctuating so we're no longer doing that. If you wouldn't mind asking about the cost of the minibus that's be great. Thanks again.

Quote: “He forgot to say that there will be 12 of us. ” Yeah because I'm sure there will only be one taxi. Best we book it now! Quote: “Stay in Arcalis. :P” But Arinsal's where the party and the free cheese toasties are at!!

Steve - you're the man in the know! We want to do a couple of days in Arcalis this season (only managed one last time). Would I be right in assuming it's possible to book taxis fitted with ski racks to get across there or is that wishful thinking? I know there's a free ski bus and all but that only runs at the weekend now doesn't it? We'll probably go early in the week when it's nice and quiet. If taxis are a feasible idea how much for a return trip do you reckon it would be? Or can you suggest …

  • Hi Cathy Quote: “What time is breakfast and evening meals to and from ?” Breakfast is 8-10am, dinner is from 7pm. Our routine was basically up at 7.30 for shower and breakfast, grab the gondala as soon as it opened, kit up and be waiting for the lifts to open to pack in as much skiing as poss! At the end of the day it's easiest to get the 6 man chair lift down to The Crest hotel and walk downhill back to the San Andreu, but we'd always stop at El Cau for a free toastie and a couple of pints. The…

  • Can confirm that is a nice route and much better than the one Google will give if you just tap in Barcelona to Arinsal and ask the man at the car hire place!

  • Jan - I realise I'm probably too late and you'll already know these answers but it may help someone else so I'll answer anyway: Yes the San Andreu is great in my opinion. This was my second year staying there and we spent a lot of the time in the bar there in the 2008 season (it was on the way back to The Crest!). We also stayed there on a summer motorbike trip. I've only ever stayed in one of the large studios, not sure if that's what you booked but we had plenty of room. Lounges are huge, bedr…

  • We're done for another year unfortunately. Got home last night just after midnight. Currently dragging the videos and photos off the SD cards but by way of a run down: Flew out Friday 29/01, first day skiing Saturday 30/1. Four of us in the group, me (3rd year in Andorra + 1yr in Switzerland mid-90's), Dave (3rd year in Andorra) and my parents (2nd year in Andorra). First two days the weather was pretty poor. Snow was excellent but it was cold, windy and overcast - but that was never going to st…

Mate, if the worst injury I get is to leave my tabs on a grind rail I'll consider it a great success but will obviously have to try harder next year! But yeah we're off Friday morning, flying at 4pm from Stanstead and driving in from Barcelona so first day on the slopes will be Saturday. Taking camcorder and headcam this year so if you're lucky you'll get a review AND a movie to go with it - how lucky are you?!

Ricfrench - I'm sure you have a perfectly valid argument/point but I'm now too distracted trying to think of how many situations I can use the phrase "freshly powdered head" without getting arrested!!
