    BBell - - Snow & Weather

    Post

The snow was excellent last week, but it changed quite a bit from day to day, so I am sure it won't be the same in three weeks. That said, there was a good depth on the majority of the pistes, so I would think there would still be plenty of snow even if no more falls. Isn't 14th Feb mid term break this year? If so the hire shops will be busy. If you get there before 4 on Sunday you can get your stuff then, which is usually much easier

The problem is that the next week will go wayyy to quickly. We just got back yesterday after months of anticipation and a brilliant week. On a complete downer now

You don't need a photo. The pass isn't specific to you. It is just valid between two dates, (so don't lose it)

  • Has anyone used the ski storage facility at Princessa Parc. We used the lockers up the mountain last year and on the days where the mountain was closed, we couldn't get the skis to go to Pal or Arcalis. Princessa Parc has some sort of cage, which might be handy (if it was free) ut failing that, are there lockers in the village?

  • We are coming out on 10/01 as well. The instructors are brilliant - everyone will have a ball. I think the ski bus is free - It was the last time we used it. You could walk up from St Gothard in probably about 15-20 minutes, but the altitude makes it a killer. The beer isn't particularly cheap, but it isn't expensive - usually runs about the same as a pint in the local. Don't worry about the snow - since we started skiing we have lost days to too much snow, but never one to not enough snow. On o…

It is supposed to be -7 degrees or lower all week, so the snow machines will hopefully be working away. fingers crossed. Anyway - there will be heavy snow on 10th January, stopping just after tea time, to give the bashers time to sort it all out before I get there next morning. (nothing like have complete faith in the god of snow )

  • There are usually several groups of kids ranging from 'can't stand up' to 'future olympian?' The instructors will put your kids in a group that will be challenging for them without putting them at risk or trying to get them to do more than they are ready for. Our two (10 and 8 now) have been to SKi Schol twice in Arinsal starting from complete beginners aged 8 and 6. They both went to snow park on the first day and were skiing reds by the end of the week. We are back in a month and they were giv…

Last time we were there the advanced intermediate kids group ranged from 7 to 14. As Steve says, they round everyone up on the first day and get them to ski a bit to show what level they are at. They then get grouped according to ability. Our kids just wanted to ski with us at the start, but they wouldn't consider NOT going to ski school now

  • It is probably slightly closer to the chair lift, but a first day skis attached dismount would be entirely cruel. If you decide to go that route make sure you take a video camera....

  • The group lessons go up to level 3 intermediate.... they can get quite challenging

  • As you come down the gondola, there are 8 identical buildings over to the left, between Princesa Parc and The Crest Hotel. Looks like a multi story carpark. We came up with loads of theories, but does anyone know what they actually are? p.s. - Just got home on Sunday - for the first time ever, we couldn't ski last Thursday because there was too much snow. Wednesday was interesting though. Knee deep in powder is challenging for us less experienced mortals - when it gets chest deep the going is re…

Wooohoooooo!!!!! All the work cleared up, house is clean (dunno why women insist on cleaning the entire house before holidays - maybe it is so the burglars are impressed) and the bags are just about packed. Tomorrow is a designated beer day for the six nations openers and then we are on our way. I feel like a 5 year old on Christmas eve

We got free lift passes for a 7 year old and a 10 year old. Not sure if this was Valnord related or travel agent related though.

  • Cheers Steve - I didn't even think about asking the hotel.... I suppose that would be the obvious place to start. We are staying in Princessa Parc so I'll give them a shout to see if they can organise something

  • Is there somewhere in Arinsal where we could get a birthday cake? We are there from 8th Feb and our youngest will be 9 during that week. If there isn't a bakery in Arinsal, where would the closest place be?

  • The food was good everywhere we tried. Reasonable prices in the village, a bit more expensive on the mountain, but not bad really. (We were in Killington a few weeks ago and a burger and chips was 20 dollars  - packed lunch all round. There are vouchers on the site here for freebies (in the resort button at the top) and if you are at the bottom of the gondola late in the afternoon you usually get vouchers for free or cheap beer and snacks
